SSW RAG Ratings Procedure

2 min read

The Positive Aspirations Group allocates Risk ratings of Red, Amber or Green – RAG on Base to every child for the following categories:

•          Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE)

•          Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE)

•          Radicalisation/Extremism

•          Gang Affiliation

•          Parent and Child Placement

•          Self-Harm

•          Missing from Care

•          Child Trafficking

When a child is first placed the categories will automatically be set to ‘new placement’.

If any of these categories are on the referral when RAPT are inputting the matching information, they will re-allocate the RAG rating for that category to reflect the level of risk and add relevant notes. The rest will remain as ‘new placement’.

The SSW MUST make themselves aware of the risk levels for all new children so that appropriate risk management strategies can be put into place immediately and included onto the child’s Safer Caring Policy.

  • Info is found in the matching form, the referral and the Risk section of the child’s record

Following the Placement Planning Meeting, if there is new information about a risk the SSW should inform the TM so that they can update the RAG rating to show the appropriate level.

  • The Rag app is located on Base under the Senior managers tab

Every month during the Manager’s meeting there is a risk/RAG meeting when the levels of all children are reviewed and changed where necessary using the RAG Meeting app.

  • When updating the RAG rating the RM/TM will press a button on the app indicating whether the SCP needs updating to reflect the new level of risk. This will generate an email to the SSW advising them to make the update.
  • This update must be done as soon as possible
  • When the RAG meeting is complete the RM/TM must press the button that advises Base to take a snapshot of that month’s risks which informs the ‘risk over time’ function.
